Celebrating the People of Prahran Football Club
Prahran Football Club has been shaped by generations of remarkable players, coaches, officials, volunteers, Life Members and loyal supporters who have each played a part in building the Club and its community.
This page celebrates some of those special people — recognising their achievements, contributions and the lasting impact they have made both on and off the field.
Their stories are an important part of Prahran’s history and a reminder that a great football club is built not only on what happens on the field, but on the people who make it a community.

Mick Erwin
8 June 1943 – 11 April 2026
Mick Erwin, Prahran’s 1978 VFA premiership coach, Hall of Fame coach and Life Member, passed away suddenly on the eve of the Club’s inaugural Hall of Fame induction ceremony on April 17.
Erwin had a storied playing and coaching football career with several clubs but it was the 1978 premiership in his first season that endeared him for a lifetime to Two Blues fans.
A crowd of 30,569 packed into St. Kilda’s Junction Oval as the match lived up to the hype, with brilliant football and some brutal physical clashes.
The hard-fought match resulted in a 22 point victory to Prahran (21.15.141 to 17.17.119).
Long after his playing and coaching career Erwin returned to Prahran as part of a sub committee with past players to return the club to Toorak Park in 1999.
Mick also coached Collingwood in 1982.
Greg Smith
July 2026
Former State Bank player Greg Smith passed away in July after a battle with MND.
A popular clubman, Greg played 209 games for the Club, including 77 senior games and 132 Reserves games.
Peter Katsambanis
September 2026
A former Prahran junior and senior player and well-known politician, passed away on September 5, aged 60, while in the care of The Alfred’s heart transplant team.
A proud father of five, Peter dedicated many years to public service in both the Victorian and Western Australian Parliaments. He was a true-blue Prahran person, having grown up in the area and attended Windsor Primary School and Prahran High School. Peter later went on to play senior football for Prahran and remained a very proud clubman.
Firm believers in the power of community, Peter and his family became fully involved in Prahran Junior Football Club upon their return to Melbourne. Three of his children became valued members of their respective teams: Andrew (U18 Richards), Angelica (Gelly – U18 McKay) and Zoe (U14 Coote). It was a source of enormous pride for Peter to see his children wearing the Two Blues jumper.
Peter served as the Member of the Victorian Legislative Council for Monash Province from 1996 to 2002 and later represented the Liberal Party in the Western Australian Parliament.
