Vale Graeme McMahon

Prahran Football Club is mourning the loss of its Team Of The Century ruckman Graeme McMahon who died Tuesday July 1 after a long battle with pancreatic cancer.

McMahon played 139 VFA games with the Two Blues from 1961-69 and was selected on the interchange bench in the Team Of The Century announced in 2002.

A 1966 premiership player, he was club captain in 1967 and leading goal kicker in 1961.

Among his 1966 premiership teammates was a young Kevin Sheedy.

Some 34 years later they joined forces to win an AFL premiership with Essendon in 2000 - McMahon as president and Sheedy as coach.

McMahon, 74, was chairman of Essendon from 1996-2003.

McMahon was always willing to help his old club, whether it be as guest speaker at a home game luncheon or attending club functions.

The club extends its deepest sympathy to the McMahon family in particular his wife Gleneys and sons Brett and Brad.

Players wore black armbands v Whitefriars on Saturday July 5 as a mark of respect.

A funeral was held on Wednesday July 9 at St Monica's Catholic Church, Mt Alexander Road, Moonee Ponds.
