Two Blues Win Two in a Row - Back in the Four
For the first time this season Prahran Assumption recorded successive wins and an away from home victory by accounting for Melbourne High School onSaturday.
The Two Blues were scratchy in the first half, but slammed on 13 goals in the second stanza to post a runaway 76 point win over the bottom-of-the-ladder opposition.
Following the 87 point win over Whitefriars the previous week, the form graph is on an upward curve with Prahran Assumption now third on the Division 1 ladder.
But the true merit of the Two Blues status will be known after the next two games when they clash with ladder leaders Williamstown CYMS and the undefeated Therry Penola.
A repitition of the error riddled second quarter will spell almost certain defeat.
After conceding a four goal deficit at quarter time, Melbourne High frustrated the Two Blues by loading up its defence and a boundary line game style which saw the hosts win the quarter 3-3 to 3-0.
But a third quarter game breaking burst of four goals in the first 10 minutes was indicative of the Two Blues at their best.
Melbourne High School proved a spirited opposition in the first half before the superior skills and physical strength of Prahran Assumption overwhelmed the home team, slamming on eight goals in a last quarter avalanche.
Setting the scene early was ruckman Aran O’Hare who launched a crunching tackle in the first 60 seconds and went on to play his best game since his stand-out 2011 premiership season.
The match also saw a club high four goals return from veteran acting captain Paul Donahoo in his 97th senior game.
Adam Sleight, Pat Harris and John Robbins also posted four goal hauls as the Two Blues potent forward line sprang to life in the second half.
In defence when the game was at its fiercest, John Panagiotaros and Blayne Dempsey were outstanding.
The focus will now shift to Toorak Park next Saturday as the Two Blues attempt to reverse the two defeats of last season by Williamstown CYMS.
