Two Blues turn Tight First Half into a Victory Romp
Seniors:
A first half arm wrestle evolved into a second half romp for Prahran Assumption in VAFA Division 1 at a sun drenched Toorak Park on Saturday.
Desperate for a win after two successive losses the Two Blues found the going tough in the first half when goals were like diamonds. After Riley Conlan converted from a superb mark in the first quarter, the start of what proved to be a stellar game, Kew more than held their own. In fact after kicking the first two goals of the second quarter hit the front for the first time. With the game in the balance full- forward Brent Chapman, son of 1978 Prahran premiership player Gary Chapman, stepped up. A perfectly weighted pass to Will Brereton restored the lead and then two goals from strong marks gave the Two Blues a handy nine point half-time lead. The third quarter saw the Two Blues running game take control with five successive goals to James Falcone, Conlan, Riley Hogan, and two majors from Jack Matherson made the game safe. The Two Blues kicked eight unanswered goals in the second half before Kew kicked two token goals in time-on of the last quarter. While the Two Blues superior fitness and leg speed proved telling in the second half the four quarter aerial and ruck dominance of Brett Dickinson and Conlan was also decisive. The Two Blues now have a 4-4 win-loss record and need to defeat Brunswick North Old Boys away from home next Saturday to end the first round in positive territory.
