Two Blues season ends

SO endeth Prahran's 2025 season.

The 18th and final round of VAFA Premier C Grade resulted in an 18th successive loss and consigned to relegation back to Division 1.

A season of disappointment and frustration for the Two Blues no doubt, yet the 8-10 (58) to 14-15 (99) defeat by Marcellin delivered its positive moments.

None more so than late in the final quarter when Jake Stent-Powell, courtesy of a 50m penalty, moved close to goal and nobly handballed to Jon Simonetta for a goal in his 169th and final game for the Two Blues.

‘Sima’, was mobbed by his admiring teammates for the dual premiership player bows out as one of the most respected players to pull on the Two Blues jumper.

Sometimes football is not all about winning, it’s the journey and the character of those involved who come out on top.

Such as Hayden Taylor, who at the age of 40 played the first senior match of his career- a reward for perseverance and sustained good form in the Reserves.

Taylor became the 43rd senior player for the season, an astounding turnover of players and one of several reasons for the Two Blues woes.

As coach Craige Milward told his players post match he did not judge them on wins and losses.

Premiers in 2024, last this year but still the same resilient group.

The Two Blues had their moments in the sun on Saturday leading 4-3 to 3-5 at quarter-time albeit kicking with the aid of the breeze.

James Gottschalk, defender turned forward, marked and goaled within the first minute.

Ethan Plaza added a second 10 minutes later to signal the Two Blues weren’t going to roll over.

Gradually Marcellin’s superior skills took over with a four goals to nil second term.

Skipper Rory Brodie was a tower of strength all day dominating ruck contests and taking marks at will.

If you are wondering how many times has Prahran gone through a season without a win the answer is one, 2025.

According to long time Prahran historian Ray Ryan the previous worst seasons in its 139 years were 1922 and 1960  when the Two Blues won one game.

RESERVES
A thrilling end to the season with a Joel Hume goal after the siren giving the Two Blues a win.

From 40m out kicking into a breeze, Hume's kick narrowly evaded desperate Marcellin defenders for a deserved end to an excellent season of 10 wins under first season player coach Jackson Partridge.

Sadly it wasn't enough to earn a finals berth as fifth placed Prahran had to rely on AJAX to lose to PEGS but in fact won by 125 points.
