Two Blues Revival Continues Under Lights
Seniors:
Prahran Assumption squared the ledger after four rounds with its best win of the season under lights at Toorak Park on Saturday night.
This was a great win against a good side after a 22 player buy in. The game was preceded by an Anzac Day ceremony and players from both teams duly delivered a match played at high intensity, rebounding with lightning speed off both half back lines and ferocious in the contest all over the ground.
The opening quarter saw the Bullants goal within 20 seconds but from then on the Two Blues were constantly in attack yet with no result. Just before the quarter time siren Ryley Conlan won a loose ball and found Jack Matherson with a perfect pass and he goaled on the siren.
Matherson opened the second quarter with another as the Two Blues led for the first time. However, Preston replied almost immediately and kick two goals in five minutes to skip out to a nine point lead.
The next 10 minutes saw desperate footy with no score. Finally, Tom Freeman narrowed the margin with a goal and once again Preston reply within a minute and with two goals skip out to a 15point lead. Late Prahran goals to James Falcone and Sam Capra were telling and at half time trailed by just three points.
The third quarter saw more of the same, the Two Blues defence holding up and dominating inside 50s but unable to score. Finally consecutive goals to Sam Capra, Tim Maya and Capra again saw the Two Blues edge to a 16 point three quarter-time lead.
The last quarter was a continuation of the Two Blues’ desperation and run. The sustained effort from all, and although undersized, started to take it's toll on Preston. After failing to convert several chances Joey Whiting with a cool head in traffic spotted Harry Taylor who converted. Preston continued to press with a goal midway though the quarter and still the game was in the balance. Maya missed from a 25m set shot, however, a snap around the corner goal gave the Two Blues a winning 15 point lead at the 18 minutes mark.
The Two Blues now sit sixth on the ladder, out of the four on percentage only. With games against competition leaders Hampton Rovers and Ormond behind them a spot in the four at half-way mark of the season is now realistic.
