Two Blues celebrate a hat-trick of wins
PRAHRAN cruised to a convincing 84 point win over Monash Blues at Toorak Park on Saturday.
In balmy weather conditions the Two Blues kicked the first nine goals of the match, so the result was all but over by half-time.
The players were treated to a raucous ovation post match from the Ladies Luncheon crowd which gave the day an atmosphere of its own.
The Seniors win capped a memorable day for the Two Blues completing a hat-trick of wins for the first time this season following victories by the Reserves and Women’s teams.
Although it is just round 3 there is enough evidence to say Division 1 is a two tier competition.
There were two 100 plus margins on Saturday and team percentages tell the story- five clubs are at 138 or above, five teams are at 80 or below.
Prahran is fifth, out of the four on percentage after Saturday’s win.
The undoubted individual highlight of the game was Prahran skipper Rory Brodie who put on a clinic, dominating in the ruck and kicking six goals.
Brodie and Patrick Marks combined for a centre clearance physical dominance that the youthful visitors simply could not match.
The one glitch in the Two Blues performance was a third quarter lapse when Monash Blues kicked five successive goals, four from free kicks.
Against a better team such a fade out will prove costly.
To their credit the Two Blues regained composure with a 6-4 to nil last quarter.
While the game was littered with turnovers from both teams the Two Blues were much better on the spread and had legitimate targets up forward when Brodie and Harrison Cook were resting and Josh Stefanutti who kicked four goals.
In defence Jayden Williams was impassable saving at least three goals acting as the goal keeper on the line.
