Two Blues percentage booster

THESE are very early days but Prahran’s 104 point demolition of Old Yarra Cobras on Saturday was rewarded with ladder leadership after round 2 in VAFA Division 1.

The Two Blues boosted their percentage to the stratospheric heights of 260 percent courtesy of a 20-9 (129) to 3-7 (25) win.

Much sterner tests await, but a healthy percentage is always a plus.

The Two Blues burst out of the blocks with full-forward Shaun Chapman booting three of their six opening quarter goals.

After a flat patch in the opening 20 minutes of the second quarter successive goals to Ethan Plaza all but iced the game by half-time with a 9-5 to 2-3 lead.

The Two Blues running power overwhelmed the visitors with an apparent edge in fitness all the more telling as the game progressed.

Stand out players were easy to find with Jayden Williams impassable at full-back and started countless attacks with his marking and precise kicking.

Plaza continued his bright start to the season with four goals, matched by Chapman who was always a threatening target.

With the game well won early in the last quarter, coach Craige Milward switched 100 gamer James Gottschalk forward from his half-back role but alas a set shot from about 40m out registered a point.

First season player Clinton Angove continued his progress as relief ruckman and forward while Ollie Burke in just his fifth senior game grew in confidence and second gamer Luke Gorman was again a safe pair of hands in defence.

But all was not as seamless as the scoreline suggests.

This was a game of countless turnovers and the Two Blues coughed up more than their fair share.

Against better quality opponents this will hurt.
