Two Blues losing streak continues

WHEN a team loses its first eight games in a season such as Prahran in VAFA Premier C Grade it prompts questions aplenty.

To lose to then second bottom of the ladder Glen Eira by 49 points on Saturday is a fair indication of how the Two Blues are travelling.

How, why, are questions with no simple answers, but two factors are front and centre- injuries and lack of confidence.

In part, that explains how a team such as Prahran can win 14 games in a row last year including the Division 1 premiership.

The Two Blues are a pale imitation of the team right now.

Injuries to key players has exposed a lack of depth , but the loss of confidence is even more crucial.

How many times can you keep saying ‘turnovers are killing us.’?

That's the lament of coach Craige Milward .

The reality is, as even players acknowledge, he is 100 per cent right.

For endeavour the Two Blues are up for the battle, but basic skills of keeping possession by hand and foot have deserted them.

The pressure, real and perceived, is so much greater in Premier C.

As the mistakes multiply so the confidence ebbs away, and a losing mentality creeps in.

Saturday's game was as good over by quarter-time.

After a Jonny Simonetta goal on the run eight minutes in gave the Two Blues a three point lead , Glen Eira added four unanswered goals.

The second quarter was a stalemate with one goal each then Glen Eira iced the game with a seven goals to two third term.

In the last quarter a chain of passes from Jayden Williams to Simonetta to Matthew Clifford and a Max Milward mark and goal was the Two Blues play of the day.

But by then the result was a foregone conclusion.

The King's Birthday weekend break is timely for the Two Blues to restock for the run home.
