Two Blues Dominant in Bremner's 150th

Seniors:

Prahran Assumption celebrated club stalwart Michael Bremner’s 150th senior game in style and kept its slim mathematical finals chances alive this weekend with a convincing 35-point win over Old Paradians at Parade College.

After a tight arm wrestle early in the first quarter which saw the Raiders gain an early lead, the visitors finally made the most of the stiff breeze and late goals to James Falcone and Harrison Taylor had the Two Blues in front at the first break.

Brett Dickinson started to have an influence in the ruck and around the ground in the second term, highlighting how sorely he was missed last game with a broken thumb.

Taylor provided the highlight of the first half with a brilliant goal from the pocket as the Two Blues outscored the hosts into the breeze and took a handy five-goal lead into the main break.

Straight kicking went out the window after half time. A flurry of six behinds was finally broken when Falcone kicked truly, and when Tom Keaney slotted his first, the margin blew out to 42 points at 3/4 time.

The rain started to belt down at the break and was looking ominous. The lights were switched on, the advertising signs went flying...then the clouds cleared and the game was finished in blazing sunshine.

The Raiders registered three goals quickly to add some respect to their score, but a brace from Will Brereton dashed any hopes of a comeback as the Two Blues recorded their fifth win of the season.

The Reserves produced their most convincing effort of the season with a thumping 51-point victory. John Panagiotaros helped himself to three goals while Mark McGill, Ricky Webb and James Brereton led the charge.

The Women’s side endured shocking conditions as rain and hail hit the south-eastern suburbs as they travelled to Burwood to battle Emmaus St Leo’s. Neither side could register a goal as the hosts snuck home three points to two.

The thirds had a bye.
