Two Blues Demolish Bullants

Seniors:

Any win, even against an undermanned opponent, is valued when you are defending VAFA Division 2 top-of-the-ladder status as Prahran Assumption was on Saturday.

But sometimes the win carries an extra level of satisfaction as was the case with the Two Blues 121 point demolition of Bulleen Templestowe. The Bullants have inflicted some painful defeats on the Two Blues in recent times going back to a 100 point opening round drubbing in 2011 and a two point grand final loss the same year. Last Saturday it was redemption time. At three quarter-time it seemed to be headed for a regulation win with a 58 point margin. What followed was a 10-5 to two points salvo as the Two Blues running game rose to another level while the tiring Bullants were left in their wake. While the hosts had several of their better players missing Prahran Assumption did what good teams do, take full toll. With Adam Sleight giving a masterclass in ruck work, on ballers Dan Freeman, Trent Rogers, Paul Donahoo and James Musster revelled in the silver service. Up forward Jack Matherson with four first half goals and Tim Maya were dominant. When Matherson was sidelined injury it became the Hogarth brothers show. Josh kicking five goals and Ged two in the last quarter rout.

Reserves:

The ultimate red letter day for captain-coach Josh Ancrum who kicked 10 goals in his 100th club game!.The Two Blues didn't take long to take control through the middle and around the ground, with 10 first quarter scoring shots to none. Bulleen Temp hit the scoreboard twice in the second term but it was hardly enough to reduce Prahran's lead, piling on another 5 and 6 goals in the second and third terms respectively. The bullants would fail to hit the scoreboard for the remainder of the day. The final quarter saw Ancrum, battling groin issues, sit deep in the forward line and manage to slot a lazy 8 majors to bring his total to 10, in an outstanding 100th game performance. Some stand out performances were also had by Elliot "Digger" Christopher and Nathan McCulloch, both providing grunt and class through the middle of the ground, and a special mention to Evan Scicluna for slotting 5 goals while suffering from a virus, before calling it a day at three quarter time.
