Two Blues Bounce Back With Win Over Whitefriars
Seniors:
Whilst finals may be out of the equation, a determined Prahran Assumption Senior team bounced back to the winners list on Saturday with a hard fought win over Whitefriars at Toorak Park.
After an encouraging second half of the season, The Two Blues are fifth, three games from fourth spot with two rounds remaining.
Prahran Assumption were immediately on the back foot as the visitors jumped out of the blocks registering the first two majors. Midfield pressure from James Musster and Dan Anglin gave Harrison Taylor the opportunity to kick the Two Blues first and Rick Ellis kicked truly from the boundary line on the arc to give the local team some momentum. Gerard Hogarth kicked his first and the locals held a slender one point lead at quarter time.
The middle stages saw a tight contest continue with both sides trading blows. Blayne Dempsey held Prahran Assumption’s defence together when threatened and Tom Keaney gave the local team a constant supply of possession in the ruck duals and with his strong marking around the ground. Rick Ellis continued to supply a focal point and registered his fifth major as Timothy Maya backed into a marking contest causing an important turnover.
In the final quarter the Two Blues needed a spark to take advantage of their slender eight point lead. It came through a Jayden Williams intercept mark finding John Robbins on the boundary line. Robbins showed his skill and split the middle from 50m and from this point Prahran Assumption put the contest beyond doubt extending the margin to a 36 points at the final siren.
