Tim's Tips for Turnbull Stakes Day

TIM HABEL was a racing journalist with the Sun, then Herald-Sun for 36 years and now works as a contributor for The Age. His selections are published mid-week and each Saturday.

FLEMINGTON SATURDAY OCTOBER 4, 2025, rail 9m, track good 4

RACE 1: PERSIAN SPIRIT 1, She's An Artist 2, Stoli Boli 3, Capper Thirtynine 4

RACE 2:  KNIGHTSBRIDGE 1, Sabrina 2, One Day At A Time 3, Streisand 4

RACE 3:   ARABIAN PRINCE 1, Options 2, Miewa 3, Officiate 4

RACE 4:  MATING CALL 1, Zany Girl 2, Yum 3, Just A Journey 4

RACE 5: ON DISPLAY 1, Miss Aria 2, Tuileries 3, Miraval Rose 4

RACE 6: TENTYRIS 1, Rosberg 2, Inkaruna 3, My Gladiola 4

RACE 7: GILDED WATER 1, Revelare 2, Sayedaty Sadaty 3, Mormona 4

Race in two, the King's horse Gilded Water is a stayer on the rise and gets 5kg off emerging local Revelare which could make the difference.

RACE 8:  VIA SISTINA 1, Sir Delius 2, Aeliana 3, Antino 4

Many Via Sistina doubters after the Turnbull but it was run at a farcical pace. She's still the benchmark and bounced back from a Maykbe defeat to win this race last year. Emerging Sir Delius and Aeliana the dangers.

RACE 9: WAR MACHINE 1, Star Patrol 2, Stretan Angel 3, Watchme Win 3

War Machine has plenty of weight but he's the class factor. Providing 17 is not the 'wrong' side of the straight he can score fresh. Star Patrol loves the straight and was brave resuming. Stetan Angel is not a regular winner but has multiple Group placings down the straight while Adelaide raider Watchme Win has a great strike rate and a big finish.

RACE 10: IS IT ME 1, Media World 2, Cafe Millenium 3, Von Hauke 4

Is It Me is a track and distance specialist and drops in grade. Needs a soft draw to show his best so barrier 2 is made to order. Media World has the right form but 13 is a sticky draw. Cafe Millenium is flying for the Hayes boys but is up in the weights now while Von Hauke, a track and distance Group 3 winner, caught the eye late at Sandown last Saturday.

BEST BETS:  Gilded Water, On Display. VALUE: Mating Call.
