Tim's Tips for Easter Cup day
TIM HABEL was a racing journalist with the Sun, then Herald-Sun for 36 years and now works as a contributor for The Age. His selections are published mid-week and each Saturday.
CAULFIELD SATURDAY APRIL 14, track good, rail out 3m.
RACE 1: PLUS FOURS 1, Czar 2, Jamarra 3, Coldlove 4
RACE 2: CLEMENCEAU 1, Duchess Of Dorset 2, Terbium 3, Young Liam 4
RACE 3: POINT NEPEAN 1, Through Irish Eyes 2, Eureka Street 3, Witchatar Star 4
RACE 4: THE CUNNING FOX 1. Mamounia 2, Ashy Boy 3, Turn It Up Tommy 4
RACE 5: NAJMATY 1, No Way Ever 2, Dazzling Lucy 3, Lempicka 4
RACE 6: JUMP THE BROOM 1, Capriccio 2, Forever Free 3, Juan Diva 3
Undefeated Jump The Broom will take holding out. Capriccio is talented but often luckless, resumes off the back of a soft trial while Forever Free was impressive resuming with a Mornington win.
RACE 7: ROCK 1, Pondus 2, Defibrillate 3, Grand Slam 4
Rock looks good value. He's not a regular winner but draws well, blinkers back on and out to 2000m where he ran Think It Over to less than a length at his only start at the distance. Pondus and Defibrillate are suited back to 2000m after tackling the Mornington Cup while Grand Slam is pick of the on pacers.
RACE 8: KISSONALLFOURCHEEKS 1, Bermadez 2, Ayrton 3, Streets Of Avalon 4
WA mare Kissonallfourcheeks bogged down in the Randwick mud, back on top of the ground and at her pet trip of 1400m she can bounce back. Bermadez is a promising galloper in-form, obvious query runner is Ayrton, unbeaten fresh and at the track returning after the effects of a spider bite.
RACE 9: GUNDEC 1, Douceur 2, Fortunate Kiss 3, Glint Of Hope 4
Gundec has proved a revelation since being trained as a sprinter-miler. He'll settle in the first three and take running down. Douceur and Fortunate Kiss were luckless last time at the Valley and are preparing for the Australasian Oaks
BEST BETS: Clemenceau , Point Nepean. VALUE: Rock.
