Seniors Bounce Back
Seniors:
After regaining their feet following last week’s loss, Prahran Assumption bounced back into the winning circle following their encounter with LaTrobe Universityat Toorak Park on Saturday.
With heavy conditions prevailing, La-Trobe hit the ground running and had the Two Blues on the defensive early on in the contest, registering the first three goals. Adjusting to the conditions Prahran Assumption hit back with improved transition football and Maya and Musster converted crumbing opportunities to bridge the gap. Nathan Costin and Musster then linked up on the wing and quick delivery to forward Rick Ellis saw the scores all tied up at the first break.
In the second quarter, La Trobe’s forward entries were repeatedly repelled by solid defensive work from Jack Matherson, Booth and Dempsey. Again Musster found Ellis for his second major, yet the Two Blues were struggling to shake off a determined La Trobe unit. Just before the main break, Maya registered his second and Ryan Costin snuck forward to goal and give the Two Blues a slender 13Pt advantage.
The third Quarter saw Prahran Assumption flex their muscle in the middle of the ground. Regular supply from centre clearances through Donahoo and Musster saw the Two Blues forwards isolate their opponents and Maya showed his crumbing class reading the ball off the contest with 3 goals in as many minutes and four for the quarter. Finishing with eight goals to one, the Combine ensured the contest was over at the lemon break.
The Two blues continued to work on maintaining their intensity throughout the final term and ran out convincing winners by 57Pts.
At the half way of the season Prahran Assumption is well placed, sitting 3rd on percentage with a 9-2 win loss ratio. An interesting three weeks however, will determine how far they might go in September action, facing all 3 sides in the top four.

Club XVIII:
PAFC Clubbies had a strong 102 point win over Therry Penola. It’s 4 wins in a row for the boys in Blue and Blue and cements them in the top 6.
In wet and muddy conditions the boys were undermanned (only 19 players) but were never headed against winless Therry Penola.
Around the ground the Clubbies were just tougher and stronger at the contest. It wasn’t a skilful display but one that highlighted our willingness to put our bodies in and work harder that our opponents.
Our forward line was potent. Craig Berger had 6 goals to half time and finished with 8. Playing coach Luke Farrell snagged 6. Mark Ploenges kicked a handy 4 majors.
Jason Storer, Nick Mitchell, Billy Neasey, Husayn Pitts and Nick Koehler revelled in conditions and dominated the mid field battle.
Down back Crispin Myres and Trav Jackson thwarted Therry’s attacks and provided a lot of rebound from the back half.
Luke Faraci, Pat Cotter, Daniel McGrath and Geoff Scott were all key contributors in what was a very team orientated win.
Next week we play away against St Bernards who are only a position below us on the ladder. It should be a big test.
