RIVALRY ROUND V THERRY PENOLA

RIVALRY round is a key aspect of the AFL fixture each season, and when it comes to rivalries in VAFA Div 1, none are greater than Prahran v Therry Penola clashes.

Long-time adversaries, the rivalry went to a new level from the day back in 2012 when Prahran Assumption appointed then Therry Penola Under 19s coach Ashley Mills as Two Blues senior coach.

From then on, it seemed Therry Penola were hellbent on making a statement each time the teams met, and so the rivalry continues this Saturday at D.W. Lucas Reserve.

Therry Penola is eighth on the ladder with just two wins, and Prahran is third with six wins, but that will only heighten their efforts to spoil the Two Blues' finals aspirations.

Make no mistake, this will be a tough battle, with a rain-affected track suiting the visitors.

That noted, a win at home is non-negotiable for the Two Blues.

MEET OUR NEW INTERN

WELCOME to Ashley, 21, from James Madison University in Virginia, USA, named after the fifth President of America.

Ashley is the Club’s latest ‘recruit’ as part of the International Students Abroad (ISA) internship program.

Our head trainer, Rachael Wiseman, arranged for Ashley’s two-month Australian adventure, and this is our third year having ISA interns at the club.

Ashley’s introduction to the world of sports science came by a family happenstance.

Her mother and sister both tore their ACLs around the same time, and Ashley was curious to find out more about the injury and their rehabilitation.

A keen sportsperson, Ashley represented her university at softball and basketball.

So what does she make of our native game, Australian Rules? - “I’m not sure of positions and why they move the ball, then stop, but it’s a good game to watch. The umpires let them play (unlike gridiron)."
