VALE BARRY PEARSON

PRAHRAN Football Club lost one of its greatest and most popular players this week with news of the passing of Barry Pearson.

A member of the 1959 (Metropolitan League) and 1966 (VFA) premiership team kicking 41 goals in the season, Barry Pearson was forward pocket in the Team Of The Century.

A life member, he played 180 games and kicked 256 goals over 13 seasons, retired in 1969 but stayed at the club as Reserves captain coach.

Marc Fiddian's excellent book 'The Blue Boys' said of Pearson: "it would be hard to find a truer clubman.''

Just as sadly his wife Shirley also died about four weeks ago to end a wonderful family association with the Two Blues.

The Pearsons remained close friends with two of his 1966 premiership teammates Essendon’s triple premiership coach Kevin Sheedy and Graeme McMahon who was Essendon president in the same era.

Barry was a regular attendee at our Jack Morgans Luncheon’s and he will be remembered at next Friday’s Luncheon.
