THERE will be fewer tougher road tests in 2021 than this Saturday’s journey to Essendon’s PEGS Sporting Fields.

Demoted from C Grade, PEGS is always a difficult assignment at its windswept venue near Essendon airport.

At least the Two Blues had a taste of what is to come after enduring a tough day at the office to win at windy Trevor Barker Oval last Saturday.

With both clubs on the winner’s list after round 1 this promises to be a key clash.

GRITTY ROUND 1 WIN

AFTER a first half arm-wrestle the Two Blues were the superior team in the second half to win the season opener v St Mary’s 7-13 to 5-6.

While the margin was just 19 points, 20 scoring shots to 11 suggests the margin should have been greater.

Considering the Two Blues fielded 11 new players it was not surprising that it took at least a half of football for our teamwork to become more cohesive.

The elation in the rooms post game was a reminder of what we have all missed in the 500 plus days without football.

Encouragingly for new coach Matthew Boland our two best players were club first gamers on baller Zach Podmore and ruckman Rory Brodie.

The Reserves has a tough day at the office with a very inexperienced team while the Thirds game was postponed to later in the seasonm because of a venue clash.
