Newsletter 2, March 21, 2025

WITH the official VAFA Women's Fixture now released, we are thrilled to announce that Prahran will be fielding a Senior Women’s team for the 2025 season!
Following the appointment of Don Angus as Senior Coach and a busy off-season of recruiting, we now have an enthusiastic group of women training hard in preparation for their first game on April 5, 2025.
Don is no stranger to Prahran, having coached our inaugural Under 19s men's team in 2007. Remarkably, three-time senior premiership players Tim Maya and James Musster, who played under Don back then, are still part of our senior men's team today. Since his time with the Under 19s, Don has focused on coaching women’s football, most recently at East Brighton.
He is passionate about building a strong team, prioritising skill development and fitness while ensuring the players enjoy every moment on the field.
Team numbers continue to grow each week, as do the players' skills and fitness levels. As a newly formed team, VAFA has placed us in Division 3, with the first four games of the season serving as grading matches—click the link below to view the VAFA Div 3 fixture.
We can’t wait to see our Senior Women’s team in action, especially as they kick off their first home game at Toorak Park on Saturday, April 12, 2025.
Don is currently looking for an Assistant Coach. If you're interested, please contact him on 0418 469 269.
UNION HOTEL WOMEN'S JUMPER SPONSOR
WE WELCOME our new jumper sponsor for our 2025 women’s team, the Union Hotel on Chapel Street, Windsor. The Union Hotel is a ‘stablemate’ of our major corporate partner, the Osborne Rooftop & Bar, as both venues share common ownership. Former Prahran player Simon Lennox is involved with both establishments.
Union Hotel manager Gabriel looks forward to meeting our women’s team and building a strong partnership.
ROUND 2 FIRST HOME GAME BACK AT TOORAK PARK
PRAHRAN Football Club family extends its deepest condolences to the Macdonald family on the sudden passing of Des Macdonald, aged 79, on Monday.
Both of Des’s sons, Ed and Julian, played for Prahran, with Ed starting in the Under 12s, later becoming a member of the 2011 premiership team, and serving as the senior team's fitness coach last year. Ed also coached the Prahran U18 boys in 2023-24, including a premiership in his first year as coach in 2023.
Des and his wife Helen were actively involved in the club, serving on the committee during the formative years of the Juniors' re-emergence in 1999. They proudly supported Ed’s football journey at their local club, Prahran.
A Vietnam War veteran, Des was known for his cheerful nature, always ready with a smile and a chat.
A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, March 26, at 10 am at Tobin Brothers Chapel, 1382 High Street, Malvern.
