Mid season report
PAFC Newsletter 11, 2022
SO here we are at the half-way mark of the VAFA Division 1 season 2021 with a positive report card.
Five and a half wins, just three losses, twice by one point to Kew and PEGS and in round 1 by 13 points to Glen Eira spells out how consistent the team has been.
But while the form line suggests finals are in the offing, the ladder tells a different story.
The Two Blues remain six points outside the four so not only do they need to keep winning but must rely on some hiccups from the top four of Kew, PEGS, Glen Eira and Oakleigh.
Last Saturday at Scammel Reserve the Two Blues gained their first top four scalp for the season outclassing Oakleigh by 49 points.
In the best overall result for the club this season the Reserves also won, 8-14 to 8-7 causing a massive upset against third placed Oakleigh with their third win of the season.
The Two Blues took early control into a stiff northerly breeze to lead by two points at the first change.
The second quarter saw the ball virtually live in the Two Blues forward line and while the 4-7 to 0-2 scoreline was not an ideal return the dye was cast.
Seasoned regulars such as James Musster, Rory Brodie, Shaun Chapman and Matthew Clifford and the defence led by Jayden Williams, Joel Hume, Jon Simonetta continued their good form.
But it is the progress of some younger players such as Ethan Plaza and Jack Noonan and those promoted from the Reserves who have risen to new heights under first season coach Brett Dickinson.
With no game this weekend, the players were rewarded for three weeks of sustained effort with the club ‘shouting’ dinner at the Osborne Rooftop & Bar on Wednesday night, our major sponsor’s venue.
There is a sense this group is on the verge of a special season- time will tell.
