Matthew Boland stands down as coach

MATTHEW Boland has stood down as coach of Prahran Assumption citing work commitments.

The club reluctantly accepted the news this week at a review into the 2021 season.

To say ‘Bolo’, (pictured centre above with his coaching panel) endured a challenging two year tenure as coach would be the master of the understatement.

Last year the coaching panel endured the longest pre season in history only to see not a ball kicked in

competition anger.

This season was no less frustrating, denied a finals campaign after a seven wins, four losses COVID ravaged season.

President Fab Maya thanked Boland for his efforts “in a very difficult two years.”

In better news for players and supporters Boland and his assistant coach Matthew Clifford (second from the

left) have indicated they would like to play on in 2022.

Boland recruited several former teammates to the club so to maintain that core group will be essential to the club’s fortunes in 2022.

Another assistant, Adam Collett, (pictured left) has indicated he will retire as a player but maintain an

off field involvement.

The new look coaching panel quickly showed a love of the club and they can be immensely proud of their efforts in trying circumstances for all.

The club plans to press ahead with a presentation night function, hopefully in November, to enable the committee

and players to officially thank Bolo and his assistants for their efforts.

The club’s coaching sub committee will now conduct a wide ranging search for a new coach for 2022.
