Kevin Sheedy, AFL legend, Wayne Johnston Hall Of Fame
AFL legends Kevin Sheedy and Wayne Johnston have been inducted into the AFL Hall Of Fame.
What wonderful and deserved accolades for two former Prahran players at the Hall Of Fame dinner at Crown last Tuesday night May 29, 2018.
All their former Prahran teammates, past officials and supporters salute two of the greats of our game.
Sheedy is football’s evangelist, named ‘Ambassador Of The Century’ at the club’s Team Of The Century dinner in 2002.
Has there ever been an Australian who knows more people, or more people know about him?
Kevin’s VFL/AFL career as a player and coach has been well catalogued this week but it all began at Prahran as a 16 year-old. He was a member of the 1966 premiership team before crossing to Richmond.
Sheedy, Prahran Assumption’s No 1 ticket holder, has never forgotten his early days at Prahran and delivered a eulogy last year at the memorial service for one of his favourite Prahran people, Jack Morgans.
Johnston, ‘The Dominator’ was a member of the famous 1978 premiership team before 30,569 at the Junction Oval. Johnston paid tribute to coach Mick Erwin for turning his career around. Johnston addressed the Two Blues players on the eve of their premiership win last year.
Johnston has the distinction of being the only player to win a VFA premiership and the following year an VFL premiership with Carlton in 1979. He is also the only four times Carlton premiership player.
