Co-Captains for 2013
Seniors:
Adam Sleight and Jack Matherson will be co captains in Prahran Assumption's quest for VAFA promotion for a third successive year.
Last year’s captain and four times club best and fairest Sleight will share duties with Matherson, while last year’s best and fairest Paul Donahoo will be vice-captain.
The leadership group appointments were announced at the April 13 season launch at the Prahran Hotel, major sponsor of the club for 2013.
Matherson, a key defender who has shown his versatility by excelling at centre half-forward, follows the path of his father
Kevin, a former captain and life member of the club.
After a Division 3 premiership in 2011 and a narrow Division 2 grand final defeat last year, The Two Blues’ Division 1 season starts this Saturday with an away clash against Melbourne High School Old Boys.
Prahran Assumption completed its practice match series last Saturday with a telling test against last season’s Division 1 premier North St Pats Old Boys following wins over Division 2 teams Monash Gryphons and Therry Penola.
The Two Blues bounced out of the blocks with the first three goals of the match and led by two goals at half-time with forwards Luke Giansiracusa and Pete Cristoforo in good touch.
But that lead evaporated quickly when North Old Boys slammed on six unanswered goals in the third quarter.
Despite the 29 point defeat coach Ash Mills took many positives from the day with some newcomers to the club impressing and certain to be in the seniors for round one.
The Two Blues were missing several top players, including Sleight and Donahoo, and with a diminished bench to rotate players it was no surprise they were overrun.
The Reserves were also game in defeat. After conceding the first four goals and with the bare 18 players available to coach Neil Wallmeyer, the Two Blues more than held their own for the rest of the game.
