Tim's Tips for Memsie Stakes Day

TIM HABEL was a racing journalist with the Sun, then Herald-Sun for 36 years and now works as a contributor for The Age. His selections are published mid-week and each Saturday.

CAULFIELD Saturday, August 29, 2026, rail 4m, track soft 7

RACE 1: DAVIDA 1, Enviable 2, Butternut Princess 3, Stealth Of Night 4

RACE 2: POLITELY DUN 1, Federer 2, Jenni Multibella 3, Amleto 4

RACE 3: DARKBONEE 1, Saint George 2, Shockletz 3, Litzdeel 4

RACE 4:  CRUISERWEIGHT 1, Home Rule 2, Stylish 3, Victorious Spirit 4

RACE 5: SHADHAVAR 1, Custom 2, Photograph 3, Wrote To Arataki 4

RACE 6: OLIVEANOTHERDAY 1, Bridal Waltz 2, War Machine 3, Inkaruna 4

RACE 7: UNIT FIVE 1, Confederation 2, American Eagle 3, Aethera 4

Tricky opener to the Quaddie. Magic Millions winner Unit Five is the starting point, resumes and won here on debut. Confederation was a good third resuming in the Vain, while American Eagle and Aethera resume after impressive debut wins.

RACE 8: COSMIC CRUSADER 1, Jimmysstar 2, Beiwacht 3, Angel Capital 4

Cracker of a Memsie. Cosmic Crusader will need a W Pike special from the wide draw but he's flying and has the fitness edge. The one certainty is that Beiwacht will lead, he's two for two at this distance, both in Group 1s, Jimmysstar and Angel Capital will be the closers.

RACE 9: YELLOW JERSEY 1, First Chorus 2, Just Folk 3 Zakouma 4

Hype horse is the ex French galloper Yellow Jersey. One Australian run for a close second in Brisbane over the winter carnival. He's trialled well, if he's a Cox Plate contender he'd need to be winning this. The best of the locals is the consistent First Chorus.

RACE 10: SASS APPEAL 1, Ten Commandments 2, Storm Leopard 3, Another Will 4

Sass Appeal is a model racehorse, with good gate speed and able to dictate terms in front. She's unbeaten at 1400m and well placed to score again. Ten Commandments can test her but the drying track is against him.

BEST BETS. Oliveanotherday, Darkbonee. VALUE: Politely Dun.
