TWO BLUES PRIMED FOR FINALS RETURN

SEPTEMBER in Melbourne means finals time and so we journey to Garvey Oval, Bundoora, for Sunday’s knockout first semi-final v UHS-VU at 2.30 pm.

The Two Blues have won both home and away encounters, but while the form card may read well it counts for nought in the hurly burly of a finals encounter.

Embarking on a finals campaign for the first time since 2017 the Two Blues are in a rich vein of form logging nine consecutive wins.

Statistics can be construed in all manner of ways but consider this compelling form line - in the streak of nine wins, the second half scores totals are Prahran 79-44, to opposition 26-26 for a percentage of 284.

Granted that excludes the two defeats by ladder leader Glen Eira earlier in the season but it does include wins over fellow finalists Oakleigh and UHS-VU.

Finals are typically tight early, so the strong second halves should give players belief on Sunday especially as we welcome back co captains James Musster and Rory Brodie.

Supporters please note admittance to Garvey Oval will be $17 for adults and $12 for concession card holders with payment by credit card only at the gate on match day or pre paid on the VAFA website.

The club received 35 passes from the VAFA which have been allocated to players, match day staff and some officials.

The Glen Eira v Oakleigh second semi-final will be played on Saturday at 2.15 pm at Trevor Barker Oval.

UNDER 18 GIRLS

Despite starting the season strongly with ten consecutive wins; PJFC girls looked out of form after dropping 4 of the last 5 games in the run home.Holding onto second spot meant that a double chance final against the dominant Beaumaris was a great opportunity, but a tall order.Welcoming many players back from injury, it felt like PJFC had a strong bench for the first time since the school holidays. The theme of the day was: focus on the “how” we like to play, not the “what” might happen next. After a strong warm up, the two blues came out firing - taking control on the ground, on the scoreboard and of the mental game in the first quarter. The game heated up pretty quickly, Beaumaris clearly frustrated that their dominant season wasn't going to translate into this first final. The third quarter saw only a solitary point scored, whilst umpire sanctions and injury breaks were unfortunately the order of the quarter. At 3/4 time the coach pulled the girls in and said only focus can win this game. This generated an energy which saw Prahran kick away in the last and cement a commanding win against ladder leaders Beaumaris, who remained goalless for the match.Prahran have a week off before facing the winner of the Sharks and the Knights on Sept 10 in the U18 Div 1 GFGoals: Williams (2), Faulks, I.Coventry
Best: Williams, C.Coventry, Wallace, Hayman, Miller
